TCR protection
Protections TCR1_PROT in Appendix A are linked to a problem on thyristors of one or more phases.
Typically, the problems on thyristors are “lack of pulses” and “BOD firing”.
Lack of pulses means that the system doesn’t detect the monitoring pulses coming from the firing boards on TCR module.
This means that either the thyristor is broken or that the monitoring optical fiber is broken.
BOD firing means that the thyristor is not being fired by a normal electrical pulse and a BOD pulse is generated from the firing board and sent to the gate of the thyristor.
When a BOD firing is detected it means that either the firing board is broken or the command optical fiber is broken.
When one or more “lack of pulses” or “BOD firing” is detected, an Alarm or Trip is generated depending on the seriousness of the problem.

The problem of break over triggering is already solved during the last decade with the introduction of a parallel avalanche diode or a Break Over Diode (BOD) to the thyristor. The
breakdown voltage of the BOD is tailored lower than that of the forward breakdown voltage of the thyristor which means that the forward breakdown always occurs in the BOD. LTTs with integrated BODs are commercially available since last decade.

BoD = пусковой диод - это функциональное назначение этого компонента, а не тип диода. В данном случае, роль пускового диода выполняет лавинный(лавинопролетный) диод, но BoD не переводится как "лавинопролетный"

Когда напряжение на тиристоре растет, а импульсами от системы управления он все не включается, на управляющий электрод подается импульс через этот диод.

Именно лавинный (не ЛПД). Лавинный поскольку включен обратно и используется для защиты тиристора от перенапряжения. Для штатного пуска тиристора он не используется.
