Spanish term
vigilaba el desvelo
Spanish to English

Historical Novel
Jesus and the disciples, after they all have arrived at the Pool of Siloam.
"De dos en dos fueron llegando al estanque los que faltaban. Jesús miraba el agua bienhechora que llenaba el estanque. Nos sentamos en las gradas. Arriba, la hondura de la noche vigilaba el desvelo con estrellas nueva en la bóveda.
Can some figure out a way to express this phrase, which sounds so redundant in English, and incorporate it into the rest of my partial translation of the sentence, which right now is "The deep, dark vault of the night sky, spangled with new stars,...."
Mil Gracias,
Barbara

Above us the ... looked on (with seeing eyes).
Above us the deep, dark vault of the night sky, spangled with new stars, looked on.
The image is as if the sky had "seeing eyes" which is symbolic given that this was the place a blind man regained his sight.
