I would say, that my comment is not about word nuance but about the position and the status of the member which is in reality and logically must be a standby.

Substitute:
a. a person or thing that serves in place of another, such as a player in a game who takes the place of an injured colleague.
So, here the word substitute means both "لاعبو الاحتياط/البدلاء". This is what I intended by suggesting this term. This does not mean that I do not agree with the term 'standby'. I think both will do.

Mohamed Rehan: standby member considered to be a member but he does not actually exercise his job, he does not take the job of the main member; he is not a substitute بديل he is a standby أحتياطي member, you can have a substitute at any time from anywhere, but this member is waiting and ready to take up the job as he has been already appointed or say nominated.

And this is intended here. Bookshelf's definition of substitute: One that takes the place of another; a replacement. The word 'احتياط/احتياطي' indicates so. Thank you Awadh for your interaction. I like that.
