Football rules the "environmental" world!
looking at the article in question, found it on google ;), I would say this sounds good and carries the right "intonation"
anyway, hope that helps :)
or maybe:
Football goes green
Football clubs see green
anyway, hope that helps :)
or maybe:
Football goes green
Football clubs see green

: I like 'Football goes green'. It's a bit snappier and, I think, more suited to the headline of an article.

: best to stick close to what they already have/like. Goes green works nicely. Because in the social environment, football can be poisonous

: Football goes green/Football's going green (but ref to "Fußball ist unser Leben…denn König Fußball regiert die Welt." is lost. (Wer kennt nicht das König-Fußball-Lied, das die Nationalmannschaft von 1974 zum WM-Sieg aufgenommen hat.) YouTube videos avail!

: anything with king/majesty is way wide of the post, at least in the English I'm familiar with.// Am changing to neutral as I now reckon this too is too forced. Not to worry. :-)

: don't agree with your main sugg. - too literal and "environmental world" doesn't work for me; I believe we need a typically English saying and vary it like the original; "football is King" is one; "goes green" is a bit weak.

His majesty Football wields/holds (reigns/rules with) a green sceptor
na ja, I've had better ideas, but maybe someone can work with this.
Peer comment(s):

Eleanore Strauss
: Actually the idea is good. I would change it to simply King Football reigns with a green scepter (correct spelling) - or even rules the Environment (capitalized)

Thanks ElliCom, however you spell that thing the big guy holds - my spelling is obviously passé, but was once correct, believe me. I was once an Anglophile of the worst, queen adoring sort!

: Dearest Dame Ramey, least dogmatic and therefore most favoured of all American contributors to this site! The USA abjures monarchy, hence the correct spelling is 'sceptre'.

Sir Andrew, she's your Queen, I'm just an 'umble servant, sceptre/scepter/sceptor, 'cept her.

: You probably ARE the least dogmatic of us all. And yet, it's funny this should be brought up at all considering the myriads of objections to US English I've seen on this site compared with the mere trickle of complaints in the other direction//Good reply!

The trickles tickle and the torrents flash by: language is my joy, I skip the jostling wherever possible. I'm a very small woman, so I fight with very special weapons - laughter being my favo(u)rite as I can also wield it against myself.

Eco football rules (the world)
titles must be short and snappy, even if it means taking liberties in the translation

King Soccer rules the (eco)world!
It's King Soccer if the audience for the translation is American; change to King Football if the audience is British.

: "König Fussball" is a feststehender Begriff in German. It can't just be translated literally as you've suggested.

A Green World through Football
Even though my source talks about the other type of football, this could be adapted to the real thing as well. This wants to get the same message across as the original, in my opinion. Solutions that keep close to the original may run the risk of sounding a little contrived.

Not sure what Andrew's concern is here. There are millions of examples for slogans using the same structure. Just google "a better world through"...

: Eine grüne Welt durch Fussball? 'Durch' rarely translates straightforwardly as 'through'. In fact, I usually turn the construction round: Football for a green world. Though as you suggest, this does sound a little contrived.

I came up with the English phrase as is, not your German phrase. Any comparisons between "durch" and "through" are yours, not mine. They had no bearing on how I came up with this solution.

football is king (in the green world)
late thoughts .....
football clubs score big being green
or with a similar approach as the German original:
football is king (in the green world/in the environment)
football clubs score huge (green) goal

Delta Vacations is scoring big with soccer fans throughout the U.S. and Canada with an unforgettable tour with one the world’s most famous soccer teams. Now, travelers visiting London can schedule an interactive tour of the Chelsea Football Club’s stadium and museum.
