Spanish term

casas de superficie

I think what they want to say here is that these houses are not in caves or excavated into the rock, but not sure of the correct term. This is about Gran Canaria.

Thanks in advance.

Unless the text also refers to underground or cave dwellings, you don't really need to make the distinction, and you could just say "houses".

surface (stone) dwelling

I think this is to distinguish it as man-made rather than the many dwellings that were in caves

"surface dwelling" is quite commonly used in archaelogy A couple of examples:

"...This period marks the transition between Paleolithic and Neolithic ways of life. Archaeological findings indicate that people lived in simple surface dwellings and fed themselves through hunting and gathering."

stone houses

I'm quite sure this is how we would describe the houses. When referring to a special type of house, then we paraphrase.

surface settlements

Bocabarranco / El Agujero / La Guancha (Gáldar)

The remains of one of the most important of the Island’s primitive surface settlements are preserved on this site. Apart from the many dwelling places in evidence, the outstanding feature of the site are its burial mounds, considered to be amongst the most important on the Island.
