French term

Griffer les pédales

French to English Other Sports / Fitness / Recreation Mountain bike technique
This is from a document for mountain bikers about how to jump over obstacles on mountain bike trails:

"LE SAUT DE L’OBSTACLE
Afin de décoller, effectuez une extension rapide et simultanée de vos membres supérieurs et inférieurs. On peut comparer ceci à un ressort que l’on aurait comprimé puis relâché, ce qui provoque son extension rapide.
Pendant cette phase, griffez les pédales avec les pieds et maintenez fermement le cintre afin de conserver le contrôle de votre vélo.
Vos deux roues doivent quitter le sol en même temps, il convient pour cela d’être au centre de votre VTT."

I know what "griffer les pédales" means since I have found a définition in another source: "Griffé des pédales: la pointe du pied est orientée vers le bas et exerce une poussée vers l'arrière" (http://www.culturestaps.com/site_g000039.pdf).

Is there a specific term for this in English? I have not yet found one, but maybe someone with more knowledge of mountain biking knows the answer!

scoop the pedals

Possibly?

How do I stay on the pedals?
Also with flat pedals, I learned to "scoop" the pedals with my feet by pointing my toes toward the ground slightly and having the pedal bodies on a diagonal angle. That way when you take off your feet just don't lift up away from the pedals.

Can't Bunnyhop!!
Scoop them pedals man....point your feet[s] and scoop back like you are tucking your legs lifting your knees to your chest
And what is this scooping motion I hear about?
Scooping is the motion your feet should make
Point your feet...but pressure back on your pedals and raise your knees up.

Grip the pedals with your feet, with a sort of rear-ward scooping motion - toes pointed kinda downward - and pull the back of the bike up under your ass with your legs. Tuck it as high as you can. You gotta have the right shoes and pedals for this.

Once the front wheel gets on push the bars forward and away scooping the rear wheel up with your feet by pointing your toes down and gripping the pedals. As you are pushing forward on the bars you will be able to put a little more rearward pressure on the pedals allowing for more lift.

Key mountain bike skill 2: how to lift your rear wheel
Useful for: getting safely over obstacles or gaps in the trail without suffering a pinch puncture.
Now that your weight is moving forward, the rear wheel is becoming lighter and your feet are pointing downwards, you want to scoop the rear of your bike up with your feet and pedals. What do we mean by scoop? If you imagine a bull scraping its hoof on the ground, it will drag its foot backwards and then at the last minute, upwards. Thus lifting the rear wheel (not the bull!).
