Spanish term
indemnización vejez
Spanish to English
Law/Patents
Insurance
pensions
This refers to the "indemnizacion sustitutiva" in Colombia, a one off payment for people who haven't made enough social security contributions to get a pension, as referred to at http://www.colpensiones.gov.co/publicaciones/es-CO/129/Pensi...
The context is a letter from the Social Security Institute (ISS) saying someone does not receive a pension but that the "ISS reconocio indemnización vejez (unico pago)."
I am toying with various options, such as "lump sum old age payment". I think I should avoid the terms compensation/indemnization because of potential ambiguity, but am wary of inserting 'pension' in the translation too. I would be interested in any other suggestions.
Thank you!

'Old age' sounds a bit, er ageist and old! In the UK we talk about people who no longer work as being retired. 'Jubilado' in Spanish I think?
Lump sum is good, another option could be one-off.
Regards.

: do you mean annuity?? a gratuity means something given free.....// read what the asker says, the person concened has to make a lump-sum payment so this cannot be a gratuity// what is "a government staff"?
