At gå ned på udstyret

Not for points Danish to English Other Idioms / Maxims / Sayings Idiomatic slang

Tak for hjælpen!

Talking about "equipment" here makes me want to snigger but perhaps that's just me and my smutty mind ;-)
juliegu (asker) Feb 10, 2015:
It is for a fictional essay and it plays on a pun earlier in the text, so it has to contain the word "equipment" or a synonym. In Danish something like:
"... som vi vil se senere, er jeg ikke typen, der går ned på udstyret". Thanks for your interest and help in any case!

It means "be let down by your gear" but I don't think there is an idiomatic equivalent in English. If you give a specific context, maybe we could come up with something.

Exhaust the limit's of one's equipment/instruments/etc. before exhausting one's own limits

or something to that tune.
Note from asker:
Perhaps something like: "As we will see, I am not one to exhaust the equipment limit before exhausting my own"..?

It was not equipment they were short on

I can´t think of a more colourful expression, but something like that.

The equipment was the last thing they had to worry about, or their equipment would never let them down.

I was waiting for the younger generation to come up with something - it´s not really my scene!

Don't be let down by your gear might fit in other contexts. I am looking for an apt translation myself four years later, and had forgotten all about this…
Note from asker:
I find that your "their equipment would never let them down" suggestion is relevant in terms of style or schwung (see my comment to andres-larsen), but the semantic meaning is slightly different, because the subject shifts to the equipment, and unfortunately that won't work in my case. But thanks for your effort!

Note from asker:
Actually, I think your suggestion has relevance, because it has this kind of tongue-in-cheek schwung of idiomatic expression, which the Danish expression "At gå ned på udstyret" has and which the other suggested translations here, with all due respect, still lack. I agree with Gitte H that the semantic meaning of your expression has far to no relation to "At gå ned på udstyret", and thus I cannot use it in my case, because I need a phrase, which contains the word equipment (or a synonym). However, I think it could have relevance to other users in other cases and thank you anyhow for the effort!
