I'm looking for the most natural English way to translate this idea- I came up with IRON GRIP which translates the similar pugno di ferro-any better suggestions or should I just go with this?

Anyway, lets stick to grip for the time being:)
However, the way it is put "strapparsi ... ferreo ..." leaves little doubt, it must be something you cannot normally escape from. When I think of the Irish Scots invading Scotland with a cross in one hand and a sword in the other, I tend to think it was more the other way round though.
