tube footprint

'lecho' as in 'lecho del río', which is the space (width) occupied by a river when carrying the waters from melting snow in the Spring.

The quoted extract from the ST says: debe diseñarse con el mismo lecho de tubo. There no mention there of 'bajo'.

It means that the tubes should be drawn/planned/designed with due consideration to their natural (bare) width (i.e. the tray will be (at least) 5xn cm wide if there are 5 tubes each of n cm outside diameter. That contrasts with the case where the/some tubes have thermal insulation (i.e. occupy more space, and may also require additional space between them so the insulation of one tube doesn't touch the next), in which case the tray must be wider.

A generic term for this 'lecho' concept, suitable for a civil engineering context, is 'footprint'.
