Spanish term

susceptible de ulterior contrastación

Spanish to English Law/Patents Law (general) Court report
Hi,

Dealing with a court report from Spanish into British English and the phrase above is causing me some problems.

In the proceedings being reported, the authorities wish to set up a wire tap and in the section where the phrase appears, the legal basis for doing so is being set out. Please see the phrase below in its full sentence for context:

Could someone help with this one please? Really not sure about this one.

Many thanks in advance for your help!

Discussion

Robert Carter Oct 12, 2016:
Thanks for the clarification, Alvaro That does appear to be the case, doesn't it? "Contrastación" seems to relate specifically to investigation rather than any legal requirement (I was proposing the latter):

corroborated / corroboration

Another alternative to verification which is often used in the context of police investigations.
Example sentence:

The requirement for corroboration was cited in McLean as one of several elements in the criminal justice system that contributed to the overall fairness of the trial procedure.

capable of subsequent collation

I and my lecturers are not sure that this is to do with independent corroboration, rather than with comparing, *checking* and contrasting other wire-tapped evidence gathered.

Care needs to be taken with the UK police term of 'collator' that is also, paradoxically, polic slang for a repeat offender, namely one who has clocked up a series of offences or is known for 'helping police with their enquiries'.

There seems to be some confusion over the timing and purport of the 3 different processes* See the web ref. question:

Método hipotético deductivo. Estructura de una teoría científica. *Contrastación, corroboración y confirmación*. Refutación de teorías.
