HU
(Hounsfield units) - it's probably just an OCR error, "Ни" instead of "HU" because of Russian-only recognition settings.
"Единицы HU" is redundant because U in HU is already a "unit".

Couldn't these be calcification foci within the medulla?

Yes, that's exactly why I'm asking. Corpus sterni contains a fairly large amount of bone marrow, right? And if I remember correctly, corpora vertebrae aren't very dense inside, either. Take a look here: http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0378603X16... and here: http://cdn.intechweb.org/pdfs/25703.pdf

Note from asker:
That's what I thought, but the values throw me off. The normal range for bone density is 800-3000 HU, but these numbers are showing 1200, and stating that this is way above normal. Their norm is 80-100. Do they use a different scale there? What do you think? Thank you. |
No, these are the bone lesions found in the vertebral bodies of the thoracic region and in the body of the sternum. This is from chest CT. |
You made my day! Thank you. |
