It's my opinion that "juicio" sometimes also means "procedure for adjudication",which is to say a procedure or proceeding leading to adjudication. In a summary such procedure, a judge might rule in chambers ("under advisement"), for example, based on (written) submissions and (written) arguments, without the parties having the opportunity to request a continuation or (possibly) to submit a sequence of replies.
