French to English Tech/Engineering Manufacturing Packaging
"Les lampes sont conditionnées dans une boite renforcée et protégée par une caisse américaine."

Seems to be a specific kind of packaging, regarded as "American" in style rather than origin. Anyone come across this before?

@ Asker (2) Also, although the KudoZ search facility does have its limitations (inlcuding not being able to search for a 2-letter term!), you may find it easy to do what I do, which is to use Google to search within KudoZ — simply add "KudoZ" to your search string, and generally, you don't get to many red herrings. In addition, Google is pretty good at suggesting alternatives if there is a minor syntax error.

@ Asker FYI, the KudoZ search facility offers the option to "ignore diacritics" to cater for just that situation!
And please, if you have noticed this error, contact a moderator to have that earlier question edited and corrected to help future users.

Thanks for all the input here, much appreciated. From what I've been able to undertand, it simply refers to a standard cardboard box. For my own context, I used the term "cardboard container" as there was another "box" involved in the packaging. I'd forgotten how bad the proz search engine is - it turns out the question WAS asked before, but the asker didn't include an accent on the e, so you'd have to search for "caisse americaine" to find it! Thanks again to everyone who contributed.

I've a feeling that it's one specific type of carton...
