Spanish term

Paga por Comprobación

Spanish to English Bus/Financial Transport / Transportation / Shipping Billing items
Another query from the alphabetical list. I suspect this may be a back mistranslation of "payment by cheque", but need a second opinion. I don't see what it could mean otherwise.

Discussion

Helena Chavarria Apr 25, 2019:
@Neil I've only ever heard 'encubrir' used when it refers to covering up for someone who's done something wrong or illegal! Not sure about geographical cover-up...
neilmac (asker) Apr 25, 2019:
@Helena For example, here's another term from the same list: "Encubrimiento Geográfico". I thought about posting it here as a query as well, but in the end I'm pretty sure it's simply a mistranslation from the English "cover" (cobertura).
Helena Chavarria Apr 25, 2019:
@Neil I've taught English in a Spanish transport company for over six years and I've never heard them mention 'paying-per-check', not that that means anything. Though now I think about it, neither have they ever mentioned customers paying by cheque!
neilmac (asker) Apr 25, 2019:
@Helena This client sometimes sends me things in Spanish which turn out to be back translations from English, which I why I'm always wary about their source texts.
Helena Chavarria Apr 25, 2019:
It would never have occurred to me but I think you’re right! Comprobación > check > cheque.

Pay-per-check (on inspection of goods)

There is at least one other way of looking at this phrase, whilst payment per check could also work as an ambiguity for the US Am version of a British cheque.

§ 2-513. Buyer's Right to Inspection of Goods. | UCC

Buyer's Right to Inspection of Goods. § 2-513. (1) Unless otherwise agreed and subject to subsection (3), where goods are tendered or delivered or identified to the contract for sale , the buyer has a right before payment or acceptance to inspect them at any reasonable place and time and in any reasonable manner.
