French term

fourreaux

French to English Tech/Engineering Automotive / Cars & Trucks Speed circuit
The term has been asked before, but I'm not satisfied with any answers.

As in my previous question, this is the CERAM speed circuit at Mortefontaine, France. Under the heading "CONDITION D'INSTALLATION" is :

Existe en version fixe avec supports battus dans le sol et en version amovible avec fourreaux au droit des entrées riverains.
3 ou 4 hauteurs de glissières métalliques possibles, de type GSA ou GSB, fixées directement via un écarteur de type P sur les supports.

The accompanying image is of a car crashing into a crash barrier (i.e. the "glissières métalliques").

I'm thinking of "post sockets".

Discussion

Daryo May 4, 2019:
These are usually pre-drilled and reinforced cylindrical holes, more or less deep - depending on what shock bollards that go into them are supposed to sustain without the whole lot just getting ripped out from the ground.

Here there are no "gates" of any kind - just a line of "fourreaux" in which are inserted pillars supporting a temporary / removable section of the crash barriers (putting "gates" in crash barrier would be a first ...).
Drmanu49 May 4, 2019:
Fourreau will still be sockets whether post, bollards, or gate.
Daryo May 4, 2019:
Look for "removable bollards" - what they are put into is the same type of "fourreau".
claude-andrew (asker) May 3, 2019:
Thanks to both of you. I'm pretty sure it's right - the barrier can then be removed to allow access.
Charles Davis May 3, 2019:
@Claude This is above my head, but I'd say your suggestion looks plausible; the relevant dictionary definition is presumably "Gaine, tube servant à protéger des conduits ou des fils dans la traversée des murs, des planchers" (Larousse). So perhaps a socket: a tube into which the support of a movable structure is inserted.

Peer comment(s):

disagree Daryo : "sockets" yes, but there are no "gates" in sight! It's for protection barriers (with preferably no "gates" in them ...) // a whole section of the crash barrier is "movable" i.e. removed when not needed - there are NO GATES / discontinuities.

On the contrary they may need to be opened or removed, but I suggested post sockets.
