I'm not so sure about that, Asker; the expression is originally US, and I think it is still only being assimilated into BE — some ladies who are into such things may be familiar with the term, but I don't believe it is yet as common as say 'shopper'. And still less so when used in this more generic sense of 'bagful' — and I'd have assumed that here it was quite a BIG bag...

@ Annie This has nothing to do with the 'Tote' (short for (totaliser') betting system used in the UK; it's the US sense of 'tote' = 'carry'.

Merci Tony, mais j'avais compris : je ne suis pas idiot, je suis traducteur. Ha ! Plus sérieusement, « caisse », donné par IATE comme trad de tote box (pas tote bag), peut s'imaginer comme unité de vente. Mais voyons ce que les spécialistes auront à proposer.

@ Ph_B 'tote' in US English just means 'to carry' — a 'tote bag' is basically a bag for carrying things around in; this use is now archaic in BE, save in set expressions like "toting his wares from door to door"

I believe 'palox' comes from a contraction of 'pallet + box', and is a box for carrying things in pallet format.

"totes" de 275 gallons ?! Des images les attestent sur Internet. On y trouve aussi des tote tanks, que Termium traduit par « réservoir portatif » et qui ressemblent furieusement à la fosse septique que je viens de changer chez moi. Classieux ! Et sur IATE, on trouve des tote boxes/bins avec plusieurs traductions qui pourraient éventuellement marcher ici, dont « palox » - la plus étrange pour le non spécialiste que je suis.
