English term
adverse effect vs. undesirable effect
English to Polish
Medical
Medical (general)
adverse (drug) effect
— A potentially harmful effect resulting from an intervention related to the use of a medicinal product, which constitutes a hazard for an adverse drug reaction and is usually associated with an abnormal laboratory test or clinical investigation.
undesirable effect
— Difference in outcomes that does not favour a treatment in a treatment comparison
Full explanation:
Undesirable effects can be an increase in an undesired outcome (e.g. more pain or more strokes), or a decrease in a desired outcome (e.g. worse vision or fewer healthy babies), in the treatment comparison group receiving the treatment of interest, compared to another comparison group. Undesirable effects can also include an increase in burden (e.g. more clinic visits or a more bothersome treatment).

Discussion
odwrotne (przynoszące odwrotne/przeciwne skutki/efekty) vs. niepożądane
działanie niepożądane (nazwa oficjalna) = efekt uboczny = objaw uboczny = reakcja niepożądana
Po angielsku:
adverse reaction — oficjalna nazwa obowiązująca we wszystkich dokumentach urzędowych w krajach UE oraz w tekstach kierowanych do fachowych pracowników ochrony zdrowia
adverse effect — wolna amerykanka, chyba w beletrystyce potocznym języku itd.
A, FDA używa "adverse drug reaction" (ADR).
