neutral philgoddard : Instituto is a false friend here. It means not institute, in the sense of a professional body, but office or department.//Not "known as", "frequently mistranslated as".

Thanks, but while "Instituto" may be just that, a department/office, I did additional searches and the fact of the matter is that the body is known as the "Federal Institute of Public Defenders". /So contrary and always difficult! Find references then!

An institute in English is a professional, research and/or educational body. That's not the case here - it's a department of the judiciary.

You can ignore 'generales' - this word is notoriously overused in Spanish, and doesn't add anything to an already wordy sentence.
