By now the rain was even more intense. Our rainwater harvesting system, newly installed at that stage, has a capacity of 2,100 litres but was overwhelmed within minutes. The lower tank, set into a steep bank in the garden, overflowed and the water gullied its way down into the earth by the recently-finished lower steps, undercutting them to the point of collapse. Somehow they held. Huge fans of slurry and grit overwhelmed several of the vegetable beds below. The foundations of the lower tank were undercut, so it developed a list and the adjacent upper steps were soon deprived of support and lurching towards their doom.

List can be applied to items on dry land, I do not think the Spanish equivalent ("escora") can be, though.

it developed a list – before this phrase it’s talked about a lot of damages: it developed a list ‘desarrolló una lista’ que puedes traducir por ‘los estragos continuaran’ que es lo que quiere decir.

Entonces, quizás, se podría traducir so it developed a list como “el estanque empezó entonces a escorar (o escorarse)”…
