Contexto: conversa casual (contida em um livro que estou traduzindo) sobre uma partida de golfe que ocorrera um dia antes.

Em princípio, "out of the rough" já seria "fora do buraco", mas logo em seguida fala "no décimo sexto buraco". Quero sair da redundância. Poderia deixar apenas "você mandou a bola para fora no décimo sexto buraco", mas, por não entender nada de golfe, pode ser que haja algo mais apropriado.

trapaceando para sair do rough
Here it is an illegal move as the ball is kicked out of the rough and not removed with a stroke of the club. The word 'trapacear' fits the bill here.

O buraco em golfe pode ser duas coisas: uma referência ao buraco em si, ou a toda a rodada que envolve acertar aquele buraco. No caso, o buraco 16 é uma referência à rodada 16, vamos dizer assim. Ele não está tirando a bola do buraco — está tirando do rough/grama alta na "rodada 16" :)
