French term

pathologie prévenue

French to English Medical Medical (general) CoV2 preS dTM-AS03 vaccine
Hello,

Just wanted to check the meaning of "prévenue" here (prevented??notified??)

This is in a list of headings for MA application:

1. Résumé de la demande et contexte

2. Pathologie prévenue

3. Caractéristiques et originalité du vaccin

Thank you!

Daryo Sep 15, 2022:
Not sure how to put it in EN but fairly sure of the intended meaning.

This being a request for Marketing authorisation, what makes sense is:

Pathologie prévenue => (state) which pathology you claim to be prevented by this medicine

IOW what do you claim your product is good for? // For which indications / for what use you want your product to be approved for?

BTW, the fact that this is about a vaccine is secondary - the structure of ANY request for MA would be the same, i.e. the applicant would be asked "what disease your medicine is supposed to be a cure for" and that disease would be "la pathologie prévenue".

Same as someone filling a patent application would have to answer "what is the use for your device?".
Drmanu49 Sep 15, 2022:
Another possibility would be that this has to do with a female in-mate;-)

Oops! ...fit the bill!

Would 'expected' fir the bill?

Safety and immunogenicity of SARS-CoV-2 recombinant protein vaccine formulations in healthy adults: interim results of a randomised, placebo-controlled, phase 1–2, dose-ranging study
Implications of all the available evidence
Protein vaccines are widely used for vaccine-preventable diseases and represent a reliable and highly scalable technology, with products that can be distributed at 2–8°C, offering clear advantages for global distribution. The present vaccine candidate will require optimisation of the vaccine antigen formulation and dose before testing in phase 3 trials.

Peer comment(s):

disagree Daryo : "preventable" doesn't make much sense for this ST - the question asked is along the lines of "what is prevented" by your product.

Thanks, I know that *prévenue* (past participle de prévenir) is literally translated as "prevented". But being a *vaccine* (CoV2 preS dTM-AS03 *vaccine*) (3. Caractéristiques et originalité du vaccin): pathologie prévenue > preventable pathology (disease)

preventable pathology

This simply means reaching a definitive diagnosis for a disease or condition essential for developing control and prevention measures, as well as understanding the disease process and proper treatment

therapeutic indication

I guess this is just one possibility, as found for instance here in this EMA form:

Anyhow the French wording is also uncommon at least in European medical parlance as the standard term should be "indications thérapeutiques". See here
