The translation of the review is still going, and I come across "Mythos als Sprache".

Der Schmuck bemüht sich dabei um Distanz zu Vergangenem und um Anschluss an eine ihm inhärente originäre Bestimmung, eine neuerliche Verknüpfung mit dem Mythos als Sprache, als Möglichkeit der Verständigung.

My first version:
The jewellery endeavours to distance itself from the past and to connect to its inherent original purpose, a recent link with myth as language, as a possibility of understanding.

I'm a little unclear what the author wants to say here - any suggestions?
