Delta used in English Hello

I just stumbled on "delta" used in English as in French by pure chance

Core CPI which excludes the more volatile (but paradoxically more important from a consumer viewpoint) food and energy inputs rose 5.3% against expectations of a 5.5% advance.

Whilst the delta is going in the right direction, this is still multiple times over the ECB target inflation level and uncomfortable for the ECB whom we believe will still remain in hawkish mode at upcoming policy meetings.

@ all I've heard delta employed like this numerous times when a French speaker was speaking of water charges in a condominium. It seemed to me at the time to mean a mix of "data", "incremental" and "flow" (data) all kind of rolled into one.

A convoluted way of saying "October month was selected as the base for Year on Year comparisons as that gives the possibility to have (/show?) the biggest changes (= the "delta") in accessing the information ... (about variations Year on Year??)

Just a rough attempt at "decoding" this silly quasi-mathematical style. Knowing what comes before and after would probably result in a far more accurate "translation in plain speak".

One way or another "biggest driving force to initiate change" is for sure off-off-tangent ... it's only about analysing data.

@ Asker In contexts like this, 'delta' usually refers to the use of the Greek letter capital Δ to indicate "a change in something" — so ΔT might be 'temperature change'; over a certain period, for example, or from a certain reference.
Note that 'accès' here seems to me to imply the plural — so I'm guessing 'the change in the number of accesses'

We do often use 'delta' like this in EN too, albeit usually using the Greek letter itself

Cf. other uses in mathematics etc like dv/dt, where the lowercase 'd' (in fact a δ) refers to the instantaneous rate of change of some quantity such as velocity with time (or voltage with time)
