The sands form the main reservoir rocks and *shales cap or seals.* At the deeper portions of this unit, the shales serve as* source rock*. This unit is further affected by a variety of growth faults and a wide range of* anticlinal structures* (Doust and Omatsola, 1990). The complexity of these structures varies as one traverses from the northern to the offshore depo belts. The structures are most complex offshore. The Benin Formation is the topmost and serves as* cap rock.* It is mainly sand and stores a lot of freshwater.
