I need the equivalent term used in philosophical jargon
context:
The idea that people are rational maximizer is a mere of Plato's favorite maxim that man never really willingly errs...it means that people always do what they think is good for their interests

This may not be the standard translation of the term, but this - I believe - is how it should be understood.

Plato ascribed to Socrates the notion that no one commits evil with full knowledge and full consent (in the Protagoras and the Meno). He would never have recognized the expression "rational maximizers."
