Il semblerait que l'on parle ici des barristers. Avant, le client devait passer par l'intermédiaire d'un "solicitor" qui mandatait ensuite le "barrister" chargé de la plaidoirie. Apparemment, c'est une notion exclusive aux pays de common law.
