English term

conveyor

English Other Human Resources job/profession
. The race was created by the British skipper Bob Salmon, a professional conveyor and race amateur.

What does this person actually do? The text is about Mini Transat (Transat 6.50) sailing race. I haven't found any more information about its founder.

convoyor

It's not my speciality, but I suspected a typo here, and I think I was right. A convoy is a number of boats sailing together, often under escort, and it appears that this is a little-used word for the professional who takes a boat or boats from one place to another ie a boat-deliverer.

This link comes up with a site that explains the job, although it doesn't use this term:

Re asker's note:

The word has its origins in the noun/verb convoy, but a convoyor, as stated above, is someone who delivers a single boat or boats.
Note from asker:
I have performed boat deliveries as a crew, but it has always been one boat, not a convoy. So I doubt if it is about boat delivery. But - it is not my first language.
Makes sense.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thank you for your very good explanation. Actually I thought he had rather land related job, but it is quite feasible he made a living delivering boats and raced for pleasure. I know some professional sailors who do exatly the same."

hired skipper?

I know that there are people here in the US who sail their boat from California to Hawaii but do not want to sail it back. So, they fly back and hire a skipper and crew to bring the boat back for them.

Perhaps this is what is meant, seeing as they are talking about a person...

A moving belt or A person who conveys

Looked it up it says A moving belt that transports objects (as in a factory) like an assembly line.
Or a person who conveys (carries or transmits)
