English term

playbooks

English Bus/Financial Investment / Securities Private equity firms
Companies are borrowing pages from the **playbooks** of private equity firms and are undertaking substantial due diligence to know their businesses as well as anyone.

I understand the general meaning of the sentence, ie they try to understand their business, but what are the play books?

Thanks a lot!
agree NancyLynn : it's a sports term - football players need to consult the playbook, a closely guarded strategy guide

Thanks a lot! I know only the European version of football (soccer)! :))
agree Deborah Workman : Yes. In the Google search bar type [define:playbook] and you'll get several definitions along these lines.
