Flemish term
des servces / der diensten
Flemish to English
Other
Military / Defense
Belgian Navy
Military ranks in the Belgian Navy, within the context of a public contract.
Capitane de corvette des services / Enseigne-de-vaisseau des services
I have easily found translations for the ranks without the "des services" bit (lieutenant-commander/sublieutenant and other variations).
Any ideas what it might refer to?
Flemish = korvetkapitein der diensten / vaandrig-ter-zee der diensten

In my opinion, this sounds like a piece of superfluous officialese. Of course it is 'of the (naval) services', unless the officer is running a private navy.

active duty
"in service" (or "active duty"), as opposed to someone who is retired.
