Постколоніальні студії, які здобули широку популярність на Заході, починаючи з 60 –х років 20 ст., пережили вже кілька етапів свого розвитку і на сьогодні трактуються не як замкнена система, а як сітка різнорідних ідей, котрі можна розглядати як альтернативні шляхи осмислення і прочитання модерності. Основними напрямками постколоніальних студій, як вони визначилися на сьогодні, є дослідження анти-імперських стратегій та ідеологій, питання глобалізації і аналіз різних форм підпорядкування (національного, расового, гендерного, класового). Postcolonial studies, which gained widespread popularity in the West since the sixties have had several stages of development and today they are treated not as a closed system, but as a heterogeneous network of ideas that can be seen as alternative ways of comprehending and interpreting modernity. The main directions of postcolonial studies, as they are defined today, are studies of the anti-imperial strategies and ideologies as well as issues of globalization and analysis of various forms of subordination (national, racial, gender, class).
