French term

une version plus parlante

French to English Marketing Cinema, Film, TV, Drama
to describe an ad that works better. This adjective often comes up in other contexts and I'd appreciate peer suggestions !

Discussion

ormiston (asker) Nov 26, 2006:
the speaker has viewed two versions of a commercial and says this one is more 'parlant'. I know it means that it 'means more' but anything more punchy (or cute !) would be welcome.
Sylvia Smith Nov 26, 2006:
What is the context? Perhaps we could help you come up with a cute play on words, if we know the application....

this one works better

might be as simple as that! Or 'gets the message across better/more effectively'.

agree Tony M : Could well be a good solution here!

Ok, you could say that this advert really "speaks" to him in the sense that he finds it more powerful, significant. Or you could use another sense e.g. "I am really feeling/feelin' that commercial".

A bit of contemporary 'slanguage' may be useful, or may be not...

Good luck.

very hard

without intimate knowledge of the situation.

Strikes a chord more?
Closer to people's actual situations?
More readily understandable?
More direct?
And a whole lot more.
Peer comment(s):

agree Ingeborg Gowans (X) : without further context this remains a guessing game; some of these ideas here could work

hits home / hits the mark (better)

Another idea for the melting pot; to get the comparative in, you'll need to get the 'better' in their somewhere, while being careful not to weaken the whole expression...
Peer comment(s):

agree Stephanie Mitchel : Yes - or really drives the message home.

a more meaningful version

More meaningful, punchier, higher-impact, and so on.

Hard to tell from your context whether this is actually about a "talkier" version or whether it's a version with greater impact.

agree Sylvia Smith : I like "punchier"! Unless, of course this is for an advert against domestic violence... Not to be grim, but so much depend on context - especially in advertising!

a more telling version

Hello,

This commercial is more telling; it is more persuasively powerful than the other.

I hope this helps.
