"Un shorty est un type de sous-vêtement (ou de maillot de bain) destiné à cacher le pubis. C'est un petit short très court, qui s'arrête juste au-dessus des fesses, et non en dessous comme le boxer (qui les recouvre intégralement). Si certains abus de langage poussent à confondre shorty et boxer, il s'agit bien de deux sous-vêtements distincts.

Très à la mode depuis quelques années, le shorty a une connotation sexy tout en cachant les fesses. Cet engouement s'expliquerait par l'évolution vestimentaire et l'apparition des pantalons taille basse, dont il s'accommode très bien, puisqu'il se porte sur les hanches, et non pas à la taille.

Lorsque le shorty se rétrécit à l'arrière de façon à se porter comme un string ou un tanga, on parle alors d'un shorty string."

Părerea mea, eu aşa aş traduce, cel puţin. În franceză, ca şi în română, s-au păstrat mulţi termeni preluaţi din engleză, ad-literam. Tanga, bermude, boxer, string, bikini, short (în franceză) devenit şort în română... Sunt mult prea multe tipuri de chiloţi, cu diferenţe minime, ca să reuşim o traducere ok, convenabilă şi nu în 1001 cuvinte pentru un singur termen în limba sursă...

Din căutarea mea îmi rezultă numai 2 pag. pe care apare „chilot gen şort”: http://www.google.ro/search?hl=fr&q=„chilot gen sort” Cred că se vrea mai degrabă o explicaţie, o descriere decât un termen clar stabilit pentru acest tip de lenjerie intimă. DEX: Şort ~uri n. mai ales la pl. Obiect de îmbrăcăminte în formă de pantaloni scurţi, folosit pentru plajă sau sport. /<fr., engl. short. Pentru mine e doar o descriere a tipului de chilot şi nu o denumire consacrată sau una care ar vrea să se impună deoarece şi boxerii (pt. femei sau bărbaţi) îi putem cataloga tot „gen şort”. http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boxer_(lingerie)

În franceză există o grămadă de combinaţii: shorty string, mini-short, mini-boxer, boxer-short etc. Cred că ar fi prea complicat dacă am încerca să-i traducem prin cuvinte explicative... „chilot gen şort string”?? „mini-chilot gen şort”?? Cred că o descriere corectă a lenjeriei, preferabil însoţită şi de o imagine, e suficientă pt. ca omul să înţeleagă despre ce e vorba, să sesizeze diferenţele şi apoi se poate folosi liniştit termenul străin (din franceză sau engleză).
