I just asked about the term "Gart" in my previous question, but I'm also not sure about the following sentence used in safety instructions for workers at construction sites. Under handling instructions for hand tools, the tool in question is a Meißel (chisel).


Der Gart am Meißelkopf muss entfernt werden. *Hier darf kein Bart wachsen!*

agree  Ken Cox: yep -- must be read and understood in direct conjunction with the previous sentence: don't allow the head to mushroom, but since it will naturally tend to mushroom in use, the mushrooming must be ground off regularly (before it becomes hazardous).
