Eine Springflut (entsprechend: Springtide) ist eine höher auflaufende Flut, verursacht durch die Konjunktion oder Opposition von Sonne und Mond, die durch gemeinsame Gezeitenwirkung bzw. Zentrifugalkraft für eine höher als normal auflaufende Flut sorgen. Dies ist bei Vollmond und Neumond der Fall; allerdings verzögert sich die Auswirkung in der Deutschen Bucht um ein bis drei Tage.

Springzeit (Springtide):
Bei Neumond und Vollmond addieren sich die Gezeitenkräfte Erde-Mond und Erde-Sonne. Dementsprechend treten dann die höchsten und die niedrigsten Wasserstände auf. Man spricht von Springzeit, Springflut oder Springtiede.
