For the first time in a BMW motorcycle, a strut is used at the rear which has suspension deflection related damping, whereby the greater the spring deflection, the greater the damping effect. The WP strut is characterised by sensitive response and a high degree of knock resistance.

This term is up for grabs in my book and has always been a problem for me (in fact, I'm here today, because I'm still trying to find the definitive translation).

While I greatly appreciate Kim's BMW quote, Pro-Lever (& its customer KTM, who is *my* customer) use both -- but primarily LINKAGE.

This KTM translator wishes there were a clearer choice.
I think maybe the key is knowing the purpose of the part in question.
While Kim's answer is right this time, or when the term is used in combo w/ the swing arm(?), IMO other times a pivoting/ linkage system is meant by Umlenksystem.

I.e. check whether you're talking about forces or (physical) attachments...?
