French term or phrase: Ministre de l'Intérieur, de l'Outre Mer et des Collectivités Territoriales
(I appreciate that this is a very long 'term', but that is rather the problem here).
when this occurs either in a logo at the head of a legal/formal letter or, also, in a press release, can you just translate it as the French 'Home Office' or is there an official detailed translation.
(I have tried looking on the internet, and you get to a site about the French 'Home Office', so maybe that is sufficient?)

If you're looking for a translation of the office (Ministère), it would be Interior Ministry

The official website even says "Bienvenue sur le site du Ministère de l'Intérieur" on the home page, without the DOM-TOMs and the collectivités territoriales, so I think that if you need to save spave, you can easily leave it "M. of the Interior" without worrying about it not being a proper "official" translation.

agree  philgoddard: If you wanted the whole thing, I'd say the interior, overseas departments and territories, and local government. But I wouldn't say "home office" - that's too British. And Will is right - it's the minister, not the ministry.

agree  George C.: of the Interior
22 mins

agree  rkillings: Don't cut it short in the letterhead, but you can describe him/her in text as just plain (and lowercase) "interior minister" (to go along with foreign minister, finance minister, etc.).

neutral  writeaway: pity. sounds awkward. and local government sounds 'tagged on' and doesn't really fit it. regional and local authorities is the official translation. a shame to igore it
