French term

nombre de médias enregistrés sur les sites

French to English Art/Literary Media / Multimedia gymnastics
Here's the context:

En effet, les compétitions artistiques de Rotterdam (NED), de rythmique à Moscou (RUS) et de trampoline à Metz (FRA) ont toutes effectué une progression significative tant en nombre de médias enregistrés sur les sites, qu’en nombre de territoires couverts par les chaînes de télévisions détentrices d’un contrat d’exclusivité avec la FIG.

The text as a whole relates to increases in viewing figures of a website/online tv channel. This made me wonder if the phrase above relates not to accredited media/journalists attending the event, but to media registering to access the online media information - if that makes sense.

Any thoughts?

Nikki Scott-Despaigne Nov 22, 2010:
Indeed, thus as I understand this one, the original "nombre de médias enregistrés" gives something in English along the lines of media companies, organisations, entities etc., whatever...
Nikki Scott-Despaigne Nov 22, 2010:
Number or media people, corporate entities etc In my experience of working on sporting events with websites where there are sections reserved for media people, registration is required. Grammatically speaking, this reading makes sense from your text as presented. However, I may be wrong and/or there may be some clumsy writing in the original. This is the sort of situation where checking with the client seems like a good idea.

The original refers to "number" (countable) not quantity, amount (uncountable) so on the face of it, there is no ambiguity. LIke I said though, these are the sorts of things folk are not necessairly very careful with. Check with your client!
SMcG (X) Nov 21, 2010:
clarifier I would go for recorded media as in recorded media events, not multimedia or streaming. I presume it means the (web) sites of the events, that they have some kind of deal with the TV channel and they use their footage on their sites (i.e. this form of re-diffusion increases viewers). And also "as much in terms" ( comparative).
kashew Nov 21, 2010:
Dear Dan, I go with your reading "number of media (entities) registering to access the online (media) information". Otherwise I would have expected "quantité d'informations".
cc in nyc Nov 21, 2010:
In the context of your translation, I would probably say: "in terms of the amount of recorded media on the websites."
Libero_Lang_Lab (asker) Nov 21, 2010:
Does this sounds right to you? The Artistic Gymnastics in Rotterdam (NED), the Rhythmic Gymnastics in Moscow (RUS) and the Trampoline Gymnastics in Metz (FRA) all saw significant progress, both in terms of the amount of multimedia content on their websites, and the number of territories covered by the the TV networks agreeing exclusive usage rights with FIG.
Libero_Lang_Lab (asker) Nov 21, 2010:
media content So it sounds like it probably means multimedia content (audio, video)

amount of recorded media on the sites

This refers available data on the websites, but it doesn't refer specifically to streamed files.

number of recorded registered on the sites

I believe they are "registered" - inscrits - rather than "recorded".
Also media is countable so it should be number rather than amount.

I'm sorry, it's getting late: read number of recorded media on the sites.

Many thanks for that. V helpful. So is it in fact referring to audio-visual material being made available on the websites? Video streaming etc?
