German term

Pressbär

German to English Tech/Engineering Manufacturing veneer press machines
"der Pressbär wird mittels einfach wirkenden Hydraulikzylindern angehoben" óder "welche formschlüssig am Pressbären fixiert sind".
Ich komme auf keinen grünen Zweig beim Browsen (oder dann wird das im Sinne ausgelegt, dass die Presse wieder mal einen Bären aufgebunden hat). Würde man dem auf Englisch ganz einfach auch press bear sagen, oder wie nennt sich das in der Fachsprache?
Proposed translations (English)
3 Pressing tup?

Discussion

Kim Metzger Jan 26, 2011:
beim Browsen Ganz einfach "press bear" in Verbindung mit Furnierpressen? To test the possibility, in Google, enter: veneer "press bear" (be sure to use quotation marks for press bear).

I'm leery of 'tup.' Besides, I missed the context first time around. I think 'press ram' or possibly 'press hammer' would be the way to go with this one.
Peer comment(s):

neutral Ingeborg Gowans (X) : it is "bear", not "baer"/ yes, sorry I was looking at the English word; hopefully someone can confirm your findings; I couldn't find anything under"tup"' do you have a reference?

Sorry, instead of using the umlaut, I did it the old-fashioned way.
neutral Alice Milne : Dan's 'press ram' sound most likely, but in a veneer press, this could also be an 'upper platen'. 'tup' is definitely not right in this context; it has to do with metal forming processes and refers to the metal, not a part of the press.
