I wish the solutions to differences were always this easy. And yet, other little problems my wife and I had began to look different. This change seemed to have something to do with my willingness to identify and accept my role in our problems—to get my heart right toward my wife—instead of seeking to blame her for all that I thought was wrong in our relationship. It also had something to do with each of us being interested in how we could make a positive change regarding the differences we had. We work through more things now. We are more patient, more willing to laugh, more willing to examine possibilities. Maybe our situation has changed only slightly. But who we are with each other has changed greatly.

La traduccion literal es la que te mencionaron antes, pero por el contexto de tu relato la traducción mas acertada es la que yo te menciono, pues si te das cuenta la frase que le sigue en español diría algo asi "en lugar de buscar culparla a ella...", entonces la idea que tratas de expresar en inglés se concerva mejor con la frase que yo te propongo en español, si bien no es la traduccion literal si es la que concerva la idea original

Although it is not a literal translation, I think it could reflect the meaning of what is expressed here.

The man always blamed his wife for their problems, and couldn't accept his responsability. You could say that his mind and heart were closed. Then he starts to open his mind to his role and responsability in the problems and he feels the need of opening his heart towards his wife.
