English to Spanish Other Ships, Sailing, Maritime slip
Buenos días,

Espero que puedan ayudarme con el término “slip” al español, relacionado con una póliza de seguro de yate. Muchas gracias:

“- Is the vessel in a single slip? If so what is the clearance between the insured vessel and surrounding, docks and piers?
- Is the slip covered by a roof or building?
- Which direction is the slip facing?”

@Charles and Peter Ok, I have never seen anything like these covered slips here, so my thoughts went into another direction. But really, I think it is only possible on lakes, as they don't change with tides. Here in northern Germany I never have seen or heard about anything like this.

@Peter please think about that very near to docks and piers there are quite a lot of dangers for a "stored" vessel. And if you read the next point (covered by a roof or building), I don't think that there will be a lot of berths with roof inside harbours. Our insurance also asked if we had a roof for winter storage onshore and than the premium became a lot lower.

en este caso se trata de un "amarre" en tierra, donde los barcos se quedan durante p.e. el invierno. Estos sitios pueden estar al aire libre, bajo carpa o en una nave. Intentaré buscar la palabra adecuada.

Slip es el término americano; en en inglés británico es berth. Ambos se refieren a lugar donde el barco amarra, su lugar fijo en el puerto o marina. En castellano, este lugar se llama amarre. "Este es mi amarre" "los amarres públicos están en el pantalón 3"

agree Charles Davis : Exactly: a slip, singular, is a parking space for (normally) one boat. Slips, plural, could be "atracadero".

Un "slip" es el lugar, dentro de una marina, donde se atracan/amarran los barcos. Yo lo traduciría así.
