Zastanawiam się nad tym "almost" - chyba jednak chodzi o to, że czasy, w których "that number was one in five", mogą wykraczać poza czasy pamiętane przez najstarszych - może więc lepiej tak: "W czasach, których mogą już nie pamiętać najstarsi ludzie", "W czasach niewiele dawniejszych od tych, które pamiętają najstarsi ludzie" itp.
