Russian term or phrase: Адик
As a dog's name, what is the connotation in Russian? Is it just a common dog's name or is it short for anything? I might either leave it Adik or try another type of dog name in English if appropriate.

"Adik" is fine

I do not see any special connotation for a dog's name unless somewhere else in the text there is something about the dog's owners trying to poke fun at Adolph Hitler
