Spanish term

estampa marinera

Spanish to English Other Tourism & Travel tourist guides
From a tourist guide to the areas around Bilbao:

This is a subheading about fishing villages:

Entrañables pueblos que son auténticas estampas marineras
Postales en vivo

I don't want to use picture postcards scenes or similar as I'm using that for postales en vivo. So, any ideas for how to render estampas marineras in the above sentence?

Thanks

...with an authentic, seafaring atmosphere

I think the original is a bit repetitive actually and this might sound better for the first sentence.

seafaring scenes

Many options.
Peer comment(s):

neutral AllegroTrans : I think you need to attach an adjective/adjectival phrase to "pueblos" somehow rather than to speak of "scenes" (which could be mid-ocean!)

Unforgettable seaside villages (that are living postcards)

I'd trim this down into something that sounds natural in English. One of many examples:www.portugaltours.com.pt/en/blog-travel.aspx
9/8/2011 - ... modern tourist hot spots such as medieval townships and unforgettable seaside villages with outstanding scenery and warm, clean beaches.

Spanish term (edited): auténtica estampa marinera

the very embodiment of the perfect seaside village

Or something similar...

I think this loosely captures the sense - the idea - of "estampa", and also just about avoids any synonyms of "picture postcard"
Peer comment(s):

neutral Yvonne Gallagher : I really like this but not "seaside"
