Burnt grains in their rice Explanation: Uno de los significados de la palabra "prieto" es "de color oscuro". En este caso en particular seguramente se refiere a aquellos granos de arroz que quedan quemados en el fondo de la olla. |

defects/ little defects Explanation: Everyone has their little defects... sounds more natural to me than "small character flaws", at least in informal use. |

a bad egg Explanation: 1) everyone has bad eggs...in their families if the context refers to one's family background A bad egg is someone who cannot be trusted or who looks good on the outside but has character flaws that are hidden below the surface (the egg shell-you only know an egg is bad once you break it open) This idiom is similar to that of the 'black sheep'. 2) if on the other hand, the context refers to the subject themself, it could indicate that 'we all have skeletons in the cupboard' or 'we all have a fatal flaw'(from Shakespeare) 3)if it means everyone has something which prevents them from being totally care free or happy, the closest in English is a fly in their soup/ointment -I think soup is more common in uk English so it does depend on the context |
