Reference: maruja = housewife Reference information: The term "housewife", which developed a pejorative sense by the mid 16th century (see the references), perfectly connotes the idea of "maruja" -> despect. coloq. Ama de casa de bajo nivel cultural (DRAE). And just a note that it would be better to use the adjective "cheap" meaning "(disapproving) having a low status and therefore not deserving respect" (http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/learner/cheap) than the adj. "low-life" involving the idea of something criminal -> "connected with people who are outside normal society, especially criminals" (http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/learner/low-lif... "People sometimes use low life to refer in a disapproving way to people who are involved in criminal, dishonest, or immoral activities, or to these activities" (http://www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/american-cobuild... https://books.google.bg/books?id=eIyrAgAAQBAJ&pg=PT275&lpg=PT275&dq=housewife+pejorative&source=bl&ots=nWBfa6rUip&sig=Pcy_gqgzZ0jh6VTb-EKCWx Reference: http://www.thesaurus.com/browse/housewife |
