“Docent method” procedures (mapping, photographed walking interviews with participants, conversations inside communities).
The ***Docent method*** is a qualitative approach to learning about places and health in a way that is immersive, structured, and participant driven. The three stages of the docent method involve: (a) a warm-up interview focusing on positionality, participant background, and mapping/planning sites of interest; (b) a participant-led, photographed walking interview to and around the sites of interest; and (c) a wind-down interview in the community . By “docent” we understand someone with life-based expertise relevant to the issues being studied, who serves as a guide and educator outside of control settings
