Hi everybody! So I am translating pro-bono for a non-profit that helps LGBTQ+ immigrants find resources that help them with the legal process associated with immigration, as well as connecting immigrants to NGOs to help them with their social, economic, and medical needs.
In this case, I am translating the details of a help group that reads as follows:
"El Centro Hispano offers a support group for lesbian women. The support group covers topics such as leading a healthy lifestyle and getting tested for STDs. The support group also distributes condoms and provides emotional support."
I am a little stuck on the second sentence because of the use of the gerund. I am translating "covers topics such as leading a healthy lifestyle and getting tested for STDs" as "se discuten temas como cómo vivir una vida saludable y exámenes de enfermedades de transmición sexual", but I can't help feeling that I am adding a layer of meaning not present in the original text when saying "cómo vivir una vida saludable." Additionally, "exámenes de enfermedades de transmición sexual" sounds weird to me, but that´s the only way that I can think of saying that.

You could write something like this:
Entre otros temas, en el grupo se habla de qué es llevar un estilo de vida saludable y cómo acceder a pruebas para la detección de infecciones de transmisión sexual.
The sentence structure is a little different, but you avoid the cacophony of como cómo. Writing qué es llevar instead of cómo llevar un estilo de vida saludable might be more accurate, if you want to be on the safe side, but it doesn't really make a big difference. Infecciones etc. can be abbreviated to ITS. Pruebas is more common than exámenes in this context, and in both cases it would be more correct to add "para la detección de".

"that I am adding a layer of meaning" I think you not doing anything wrong. If the text sounds that way more natural, form the sentence to sound Spanish as possible. You convey the meaning of the sentence not word by word. Translation is an art and you are the artist who creates the text. It is so good to see that you working on that so responsibly.
