This text I quoted above reappeared when the boy dumped the girl with a little difference at the end: And that was that. I would like to quote this part, the part followed after the dumping:

It doesn't sound complete. Could you possibly give us the next sentence (or paragraph) please. Many sentences come in pairs and this sounds like one of them. eg So that was that. They got married.
