Adaptare – capacitatea organismului sau a părţilor sale componente de a se acomoda la condiţiile mediului ambiant. În procesul de evoluţie a speciilor, genomul şi caracterele fenotipice se schimbă ca răspuns la schimbările mediului ambiant.
Aerobic – proces care necesită prezenţa oxigenului liber, sau condiţie în care oxigenul liber este prezent.
Agroecologie – ştiinţa despre aplicarea conceptului şi principiilor ecologice în construirea şi managementul agrosistemelor durabile.
Agrosistem – sistem agricol analog unui ecosistem.
Alelopatie – interacţiune în cadrul căreia planta elimină în mediul ambiant compuşi cu influenţă inhibitoare sau stimulatoare pentru creşterea şi dezvoltarea altor plante.
Amendament – substanţă care se încorporează în sol pentru a corecta unele însuşiri fizice şi chimice nefavorabile ale acestuia, în vederea îmbunătăţirii mediului de viaţă pentru plantele de cultură.
Anaerobic – (proces) care nu necesită oxigen liber sau condiţie în care oxigenul liber este exclus.
Autorităţi abilitate – organele administraţiei publice centrale, împuternicite cu reglementarea, supravegherea şi controlul asupra legislaţiei în domeniul respectiv.
Autotrof – (organism vegetal) care îşi satisface necesităţile în hrană organică folosind energia razelor solare sau prin oxidarea substanţelor neorganice şi transformarea în substanţe organice.
Biodiversitate – diversitatea organismelor vii, a ecosistemelor terestre şi acvatice şi a complexelor ecologice (biotopurilor), ca parte componentă a acestora; noţiunea include şi diversitatea etnoculturală.
Biocenoză – totalitatea populaţiilor de plante, animale şi microorganisme dintr-un biotop.
Biogeografie – studiul distribuţiei geografice a organismelor, al răspândirii vieţii pe Pământ.
Biomasă – masa totală a materiei organice într-un agroecosistem concret în timp şi în spaţiu.
Biotă – totalitatea istoric formată a speciilor de plante, animale şi microorganisme care populează un anumit teritoriu.
Biotop – spaţiu relativ uniform al mediului ocupat de o comunitate de organisme sau de o biocenoză.
Calitatea solului – capacitatea solului de a funcţiona în cadrul ecosistemului sau hotarelor de folosire a terenului cu menţinerea productivităţii biologice şi calităţii mediului ambiant.
Climax – stadiu de maturizare, când dezvoltarea şi schimbările dinamice ating un echilibru.
Coloid – particulă foarte mică, care poate exista în suspensie de apă o perioadă îndelungată. Coloizii în sol, moleculele de argilă şi substanţă organică a solului se află de obicei în agregate, dar nu în particule aparte.
Compost – material organic bine descompus de către organisme în condiţii de bună aerare şi temperatură ridicată. Se foloseşte ca amendament pentru sol.
Comunitate – grup de populaţii ale diverselor specii într-un anumit spaţiu de timp.
C:N raport – raportul dintre carbon şi azot, după greutate, în substanţa organică. Raportul optim pentru activitatea biologică în sol este de 20–30:1. Un raport înalt duce la încetinirea descompunerii resturilor organice în sol şi, drept consecinţă, se soldează cu micşorarea temporară a cantităţii de azot accesibilă pentru plante, fiind folosite iniţial de microorganismele din sol.
Deflaţie – procesul de spulberare a particulelor de sol şi rocă.
Denitrificare – proces de reducere a nitraţilor în NO2, N2O şi NO. Are loc în condiţii anaerobe şi are ca consecinţă pierderea azotului accesibil din sol.
Deratizare – ansamblu de măsuri care au drept scop distrugerea rozătoarelor dăunătoare dintr-un spaţiu sau areal.
Descompunere – transformarea resturilor organice sau organismelor vii în molecule mai simple sau ioni sub influenţa bacteriilor sau ciupercilor.
Dezinfecţie sau decontaminare – totalitatea acţiunilor de combatere a agenţilor patogeni ai bolilor la om şi animale.
Dezinsecţie – totazinsecţie – totaor de combatere a insectelor şi acarienilor care pot transmite boli infecţioase şi parazitare la om şi animale şi care, prin acţiunea lor, provoacă disconfort sau pagube economice.
Diversitate – (1) Numărul de specii într-o localitate sau agroecosistem, (2) Gradul de heterogenitate al componentelor biotice într-un agroecosistem (ecosistem).
Diversitate genetică – diversitatea genelor tipice ale diferitelor organisme.
Drenaj – (1) Procesul de infiltrare a apei în profilul solului sub influenţa forţelor gravimetrice, (2) Înlăturarea excesului de apă prin diferite metode.
Ecologie – studierea sistemelor vii în relaţie cu mediul ambiant şi influenţa reciprocă a lor.
Ecosistem – complex dinamic al comunităţilor de plante, animale şi microorganisme, precum şi mediul lor abiotic, integrate într-un tot unitar prin relaţii reciproce.
Efluenţi – lichidele ce se scurg în perioada pregătirii şi păstrării silozului sau provenite din precipitaţii.
Eroziune – desprinderea şi îndepărtarea particulelor de sol sub influenţa apei, vântului şi lucrării neraţionale a solului.
Eutroficare – proces de îmbogăţire excesivă a apei cu elemente nutritive în mod natural sau sub influenţa activităţii umane. De obicei, eutroficarea are loc în urma degajării reziduurilor industriale şi menajere sau eroziunii solului.
Evapotranspiraţie – toate formele de evaporare a apei atât de pe suprafaţa solului, cât şi de pe plante, prin transpiraţie.
Fertilitatea solului – capacitatea solului de aprovizionare a plantelor cu factorii tereştri de viaţă.
Gestionarea fondului forestier – activitate de gospodărire şi utilizare a resurselor forestiere în scopul realizării politicii statului în domeniile respective.
Gestionarea produselor de uz fitosanitar – importarea, transportarea, păstrarea, comercializarea şi aplicarea produselor nominalizate.
Habitat – spaţiu, loc de trai folosit de un organism, unde el convieţuieşte cu alte organisme şi este influenţat de componentele landşaftice şi de climă.
Heterotrof – organism care îşi asigură nutriţia în baza altui organism viu.
Humificare – proces de descompunere şi metabolizare a substanţei organice în sol.
Imobilizare – transformarea unui element în formă neaccesibilă pentru procesele biologice sau reacţiile chimice. Elementele nutritive din sol sunt fixate de ţesuturile plantelor, microorganisme sau de compuşi chimici complecşi.
Infiltrare – proces de penetrare a apei de la suprafaţa solului.
Landşaft – un teritoriu omogen, după originea şi evoluţia sa, cu unul şi acelaşi tip de fundamente geologice şi de relief, cu o îmbinare uniformă a condiţiilor hidrotermice, a solurilor şi biocenozelor.
Leguminoase – culturi care formează relaţii simbiotice cu bacteriile fixatoare de azot, care convieţuiesc pe rădăcini. Ele asigură plantele cu surse accesibile de azot.
Levigare – mişcarea pe profil a substanţelor dizolvate în apă, adică spălarea lor în adâncimea solului.
Limita maximă de reziduuri – reprezintă concentraţia maximă de reziduuri de pesticide care sunt autorizate sau considerate ca acceptabile în produsele alimentare, materia primă agricolă sau în furaje.
Lucrări (tăieri) de îngrijire a arboreturilor – ansamblu de lucrări şi intervenţii silvotehnice distincte şi reciproc dependente privind dirijarea creşterii şi dezvoltării vegetaţiei forestiere de la întemeiere până la termenul recoltării.
Metabolism – suma tuturor proceselor biochimice de creştere, menţinere şi transformare a energiei într-un organism viu.
Micoriză – relaţie benefică reciprocă dintre rădăcinile majorităţii culturilor şi ciuperci. Ciupercile ajută plantele în extragerea apei şi fosforului din sol, obţinând în schimb din plante substanţele metabolice necesare.
Microelemente – elemente necesare plantelor în cantităţi foarte mici.
Mijloace tehnice pentru aplicarea produselor de uz fitosanitar – maşini, mecanisme, dispozitive şi instalaţii speciale destinate efectuării tratamentelor cu produse de uz fitosanitar.
Mineralizare – proces prin care resturile vegetale sunt descompuse, cu eliberarea elementelor nutritive accesibile plantelor.
Monitoring biologic – sistem de supraveghere, evaluare şi prognoză a dinamicii populaţiilor speciilor de plante şi animale.
Monocultură – termen deseori folosit ca sinonim al culturii permanente, dar deosebirea constă în faptul că monocultura presupune cultivarea unei singure culturi în întreaga gospodărie agricolă.
Nitrificare – oxidarea biologică a amoniului în nitraţi efectuată de bacteriile nitrificatoare din sol.
Ogaş – eroziune în adâncime de până la 2 metri.
Parazit – organism care trăieşte pe o altă vieţuitoare, folosită în calitate de gazdă.
Pădure – element al landşaftului geografic, unitate funcţională a biosferei, compusă din comunitatea vegetaţiei forestiere (în care domină arborii şi arbuştii), păturii vii, animalelor şi microorganismelor, care în dezvoltarea lor biologică sunt interdependente şi acţionează asupra habitatului lor. Sunt considerate păduri terenurile acoperite cu vegetaţie forestieră cu o suprafaţă de peste 0,25 ha.
Perdele forestiere de protecţie – formaţiuni forestiere, cu lungimi diferite şi lăţimi relativ înguste, amplasate la o anumită distanţă faţă de un obiect, cu scopul de a-l proteja împotriva unor factori dăunători.
Pesticide – substanţe chimice folosite: la combaterea buruienilor (erbicide), insectelor (insecticide), bolilor (fungicide), nematozilor (nematocide), pentru facilitarea recoltării plantelor (desicanţi).
Policultură – creşterea simultană pe acelaşi teren a câtorva culturi.
Populaţie – totalitatea indivizilor unei specii care dispun de spaţiu şi genofond comun.
Practici agrosilviculturale (agroforestiere, silvopastorale) – totalitatea sistemelor de utilizare a teritoriului, care asociază arborii sau altă vegetaţie lemnoasă perenă cu volumul producţiei vegetale şi animale pe aceeaşi unitate de suprafaţă.
Producenţi – organisme, de obicei plante verzi, care îşi produc hrana din elemente (compuşi) anorganici în procesul de fotosinteză.
Produse de uz fitosanitar – orice produse de natură chimică, biologică sau biotehnică, precum şi produse cu efect regulator de creştere, cu efect desicant, repelent, adjuvant, sinergic, inclusiv capcane feromonale, alte produse a căror utilizare are drept scop îmbunătăţirea stării fitosanitare a culturilor agricole, vegetaţiei forestiere şi a produselor depozitate. Ca sinonim al noţiunii de produse de uz fitosanitar va fi utilizată şi noţiunea de pesticid. În această categorie sunt incluse şi unele categorii de substanţe cum ar fi regulatorii de creştere, defolianţii, desicanţii, activatorii rezistenţei plantelor, precum şi substanţele aplicate înainte sau după recoltare pentru combaterea dăunătorilor care acţionează în timpul depozitării şi transportării recoltei.
Protecţia plantelor – complex de măsuri, destinat prevenirii şi reducerii pierderilor de recoltă a culturilor agricole, silvice şi a produselor depozitate, cauzate de boli, dăunători şi buruieni.
Ravenă – eroziune în adâncime de peste 2 metri.
Regenerarea pădurii – proces de înlocuire a generaţiei de arbori bătrâni cu o nouă generaţie, tânără.
Regiune landşaftică – totalitatea landşafturilor, asemănătoare după vârstă şi origine, care au trăsături comune ale reliefului, depozitelor superficiale, reţelei hidrografice, climei şi genezei biocenozelor.
Regulament de aplicare – totalitatea cerinţelor ce reglementează aplicarea produselor de uz fitosanitar şi a fertilizanţilor.
Reţea ecologică – totalitatea biotopurilor care asigură mediul de trai al speciilor, respectând cerinţele vitale şi garantând supravieţuirea lor în plan durabil.
Rizobia – bacterii fixatoare de azot, care convieţuiesc în simbioze cu culturile leguminoase.
Rizosferă – suprafaţă din apropierea nemijlocită a rădăcinilor, cu un nivel înalt de activitate biologică.
Simbioză – relaţie benefică reciprocă dintre două organisme (de exemplu, rădăcinile plantelor şi bacteriile de nodozităţi).
Sinergism – acţiunea îmbinată reciproc a doi sau a mai multor factori care îşi măresc reciproc efectele.
Soluri saline – soluri care conţin exces de săruri libere, de obicei cloraţi de calciu şi sodă.
Specie – unitate structurală de bază în sistemul organismelor vii; totalitatea populaţiilor care se încrucişează şi produc urmaşi fertili, ocupă o regiune limitată, dispun de particularităţi morfofiziologice comune şi se află în relaţii comune cu factorii biotici şi abiotici ai mediului.
Staţiune forestieră – cadrul natural, în cuprinsul căruia mediul fizico-geografic este omogen, determinând dezvoltarea unei biocenoze specifice.
Structura solului – aranjarea fizică a agregatelor de sol cu diferite forme, dimensiuni şi stabilitate.
Succesiune – proces în care o comunitate cedează locul altei comunităţi.
Teren degradat – terenul care şi-a pierdut total sau parţial capacitatea productivă a solului prin eroziune de apă, colmatare, eroziune eoliană, deplasare, sărăturare, înmlăştinire sau ca urmare a acţiunii distructive antropice.
Tratament silvic – totalitatea măsurilor silvotehnice de regenerare, conducere, exploatare şi protecţie, indicate a fi aplicate de-a lungul vieţii arboretului.
Zonă naturală – suprafaţă ce se caracterizează prin comunitatea condiţiilor termice, de umiditate, a componentelor biologice ale landşafturilor (vegetaţie, soluri, ape) şi a proceselor geomorfologice exogene.

Adaptation - the capacity of the body or of its components to adjust to the environment. In the evolution of species, the genome and the phenotypic characters change as a response to the environment’s changes.
Aerobic- (a process) that requires presence of free oxygen or a condition where the free oxygen is present.
Agroecology – the science of applying ecology concept and principles to the building up of sustainable agrosystems and their management.
Agrosystem – an agricultural system similar to an ecosystem.
Allelopathy - an interaction where the plant discharges into the environment inhibitory or stimulating compounds for growing and development of other plants.
Amendment – a mater incorporated into the soil in order to amend some unfavorable physical and chemical traits of the latter, in order to improve crop’s environment.
Anaerobic - a process that does not require free oxygen or it is a free oxygen condition.
Entrusted authority - central public administration bodies, entrusted to regulate, supervise and control observance of the legislation in the given field.
Autotophic – (a vegetative organism) that satisfies its needs of organic food by using the energy of sunbeams or by oxidizing inorganic substances and their turning into organic.
Biodiversity – the diversity of the living organisms, as part of terrestrial or aquatic ecosystems and of biotopes. The term also includes the notion of ethno-cultural diversity.
Biocenosis – all of the plants, animals and microorganisms of a biotope.
Biogeography – the study of geographical distribution of the organisms, the spreading of life on Earth.
Biomass - the total mass of organic matter in a certain agroecosystem temporally and spatially available.
Biota – all of species of plants, animals and microorganisms historically formed that populate a certain area.
Biotope – a relatively even area of the environment populated by a community of organisms or by a biocenosis.
Soil quality – the capacity of the soil to operate within the ecosystem or within the land’s boundaries by maintaining biological productivity and the quality of the environment.
Climax – the stage of maturity when development and dynamic changes reach a balance.
Colloid – A very small particle that can exist in water suspension for a long period of time. Colloids in the soil, clay molecules and organic matter are usually aggregated, but not in dispersed particles.
Compost – organic matter well-decayed by organisms with good aeration conditions and high temperature. It is being used as amendment for soil.
Community – a group of population of various species living in a certain period and area.
C : N ratio – The ratio between carbon and nitrogen by their weight in organic matter. The optimum ratio for the biological activity in the soil is 20-30 : 1. A high ratio slows down the decaying of organic wastes in the soil and consequently reduces temporarily the quantity of nitrogen available for plants, being primarily used by soil microorganisms.
Deflation- the process of soil and rock’s particles removal.

Forest Fund Management – management and use of forest resources as a respond to the state policy in the field.
Management of phyto-sanitary products – importing, transporting, storing, marketing and using the given products.
Habitat – the area, the place occupied by an organism, being co-habituated by other organisms and influenced by landscape and climate components.
Heterotroph – an organism that rely on another living organisms when facing its food needs.
Humification – the process of organic matter decomposition and metabolism in the soil.
Immobilization – turning of an element into an inaccessible form for biological processes and chemical reactions. Soil nutrients are untaken by plant or microorganisms tissues or by complex chemical compounds.
Penetration- the process of water penetration at the soil surface.
Landscape – a homogenous area by its origin and evolution, having the same type of geological foundations and relief, having combined evenly hydro-thermal conditions and of the soils and biocenosis.
Legumes – crops which form symbiotic relationships with the nitrogen uptaking bacteria harbored on the roots. They supply plants with accessible sources of nitrogen.
Leaching - movement of substances grinded in water trough soil profile.
Maximum residues limit – the maximum concentration of pesticides residues permitted or deemed permitted in food products, agricultural raw material and fodder.
Forest management – all of the distinct and mutually dependent sylvicultural technical measures and works aimed to control growing and development of forest vegetation from its planting till harvesting.
Metabolism- all of the biochemical processes of growing, maintaining and transformation of energy in a living organism.
Mycorriza - The symbiotic association of the mycelium of a fungus with the roots of certain plants. Fungi help plants to uptake water and phosphorus from the soil, getting in return from plants metabolic substances.

Technical means for application of phytosanitary products – machineries, tools, utilities and special equipment used for phytosanitary treatment.
Mineralization – a process through which vegetative residues get discomposed making available nutrients accessible to plants.
Biological monitoring – a system that supervises, asses and forecast the dynamics of the population of plants and animals.
Monoculture – a term seldom used as a synonym of the permanent crop, except that monoculture implies cultivation of a single crop within a household.
Nitrification –biological oxidation of ammonia in nitrates conducted by nitrification bacteria from the soil.
Gully – soil erosion of up to 2 meters depth.
Guests –an organism that uses another living organism for survival.

Policulture –growing more crops on the same land at once.
Population –all of the organisms of a species which share the same genetic fund and area.
Agro-sylvicultural practices (agro-forestry and sylvi-pastoral) – all of the systems of land use, which associate trees and other perennial wooden vegetation with the volume of vegetative and animal production on the same surface unit.
Producents- organisms, usually green plants which get food from inorganic elements (compounds) as a result of photosynthesis.
Phytosanitary products – any chemical, biological and biotechnical products, as well as those regulating growth, having desiccating, repellent, adjuvant and synergic effects, including pheromones and other products aimed to improve phytosanitary state of the crops, forest vegetation and stored products. The synonym of phytosanitary products stands the word pesticide. This category also includes substances, such as, for instance, growth stimulators, defoliants, desiccants, substances triggering plant resistance, as well as products applied before and after harvesting to fight pests that accumulate during storage and transportation.
Plant protection – a set of measures aimed to prevent and decrease losses of crop and forest yields, as well as of stored products, as a result of diseases, pests and weeds.
Ravines – soil erosion exceeding 2 meters depth.
Forest regeneration – the process of replacing old trees with young trees.
Landscape region – all of the landscapes, similar by age and origin, whose relief, surface deposits, hydrographical network, climate and biocenosis’ genesis share the same traits.
Application regulation – all of the requirements that regulate application of the phytosanitary products and of fertilizers.
Ecological network – all of the biotopes that provide species with an environment, which satisfying the essential requirements and ensuring their sustainable survival.
Rhizobia – nitrogen up taking organisms, which cohabit in symbiosis with legumes.
Rhizosphere – the land situated in direct proximity of the root biologically very active.
Symbiosis – a mutual beneficial relationship between two organisms (e.g. plants roots and bacteria of nodosities).
Synergism – mutually joined action of two or more elements to increase effects of each other.
Saline soils- soils that contain exceedingly free salts, especially calcium chlorate and sodium hydroxide.
Species – a basic structural unit in the system of the living organisms; all of the population that interbreed and produce fertile descendants, live in a limited area, carry common morpho-physiological traits, and interact with abiotic and biotic factor of the environment.
Forest stand –a natural framework, with homogenous physical geographical environment, allowing development of a particular biocenosis.
Soil’s structure- physical disposal of soil particles of various shape, size and stability lever.
Succession –a process where one community is being replaced by another community.
Degraded land – the land that lost its yielding capacity partially or totally by water and wind erosion, clogging and run-offs, salinization, becoming swampy, or as a result of an atrophic destructive action.
Selective cutting of a stand – all of the sylvicultural technical measures applied to trees and shrubs aimed to regenerate, regulate, operate and protect them.
Natural area – a land distinguished by all of the thermal and moisture conditions, as well as of landscapes’ biological components (vegetation, soils, water) and of exogenous geo-morphological processes.
